Time is a currency

You can always earn more money, but you can't earn more time.

Time is the only finite currency we hold.

It’s funny, we generally think of money as the one thing that we need more of. More money means we can have a better life, a nicer house, more holidays, and the means to better provide for our children and family.

But let’s be honest, if you’re willing to put the work in, you can always earn more money. The one thing that you can’t create more of, is time…

Time is finite, once it’s gone, it’s gone. Once that time is spent, you can never get it back. No refunds, no 30-day money-back guarantees. It’s gone.

Spend it wisely

Rather than trying to create more time, we should concentrate on trying to spend the time we do have wisely. We all have things we need to do every day, the must haves, the things that have to be done every day: going to work, cleaning, looking after children, helping with homework, dealing with household admin, life admin, the list is quite possibly endless.

But sometimes we can fall into the trap of thinking all of these things need to be done immediately.

When this happens, the things that make life enjoyable, the things that we want to and enjoy doing, can get pushed to the side by the expression well I just don’t have the time…

Prioritise yourself

Making time for yourself, your partner, your children or whoever you have in your life should always be a priority.

Ask yourself: does this need to be done straight away? Or even today?

Doing this could open the door to time you didn’t think you had. I’m not suggesting tasks should be ignored, but instead they should be prioritised, and done when appropriate, ensuring you give enough time for completion.

A little richer

Money comes and goes. You can earn it back, save it up, or borrow it. Time doesn’t work like that. Every hour you have is spent whether you choose how or not.

So this week, try asking that question: does this need to be done today? You might find you’re a little richer than you thought.
