Dedication pays dividends
Big goals can feel out of reach. Here's why starting small, and spending your time on them, always pays off in the end.
If there is one thing that I stand by in life, it’s that hard work and dedication pay dividends… It may not be today, or tomorrow, but if you stick to it and work hard enough then eventually, it always pays off.
Having goals in life is what drives us forward. How much you want them decides whether you’ll achieve them. Some people are just lucky; they are in the right place at the right time, but for many of us, we need to work hard for what we get in life.
This is where having goals really helps; otherwise you may find yourself just going in circles and never really getting anywhere.
Have an end goal
If you really want something enough, I am a big believer that anything is achievable.
You may have to make sacrifices along the way, but it all depends on how much you want it.
You may have a goal in mind that feels too far to reach, so far out of sight, like a speck in the distance you can hardly see, that it just feels unachievable. So you never find the courage to work towards it, scared of failure, or what others may think of your pipe dream.
But if you never try, then there is one certainty, and that is you will never achieve that dream.
Which person are you?
You could be the sort of person who has no idea where to start. Always thinking about it, but never taking the first step?
Or you could be at the other end of the spectrum: you’ve broken it down into so many pieces that it just looks like a mammoth task, so overwhelmed by the thought of it that you think it’s too big for you to achieve.
Start small
Starting small helps, because we all have to start somewhere…
Take it one step at a time. If you’ve broken it down into a hundred pieces, forget the other ninety-nine for now. Just start with the first. Or if you need to know how much it will take to achieve your goal, do some research, talk to people. Pick up the phone and call a friend, go online and see what’s involved.
I’ll say one thing: if you never try, you’ll never know. Trying and failing is better than never trying at all. The fear of failure is what prevents most people from trying something new, and no one should ever have to be scared about chasing a dream. We only get one chance at life and you may as well live it to the fullest.
Taking the first step is all that matters.
How much are you willing to spend?
How much are you willing to spend to achieve this goal? Because one thing’s for sure: it’s going to cost you, but it will always pay off in the end.
It may not always feel like it, but it’s true…
If you put in time and effort, you will learn something throughout the process, and knowledge gained is one of the most valuable things you can own.
So start small, let that knowledge compound, each step building on the last until you finally reach the top and you can stand there and say… I’ve made it!
